2022 has been a year full of ups and downs for the Hindi film industry with several films starring A-listers of Bollywood that have done unexpectedly bad the box office. There are multiple reasons behind the same including the OTT content which has been on a huge rise since the pandemic, and several boycott trends for several reasons including nepotism and religion, among others. Films like Akshay Kumar starrer Samrat Prithviraj and Rakshabandhan, Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt starrer Shamshera, Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha have failed at the box office while pan India or South Indian films like RRR, Pushpa: The Rise, Kantara, K. G. F. Chapter 2 have performed exceptionally well.
However, the upcoming year has some much awaited, much-anticipated, and much hyped Bollywood films in store including big names and big budgets. We have listed the same below.
Directed by Om Raut, the National award-winning director and the maker of Tanha Ji: The Unsung Warrior, Adipurush is based on the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana. The bilingual film shot in Telugu and Hindi travels 7000 years ago when Ayodhya’s king Raghava travels to the island of Lanka. With the help of Hanuman’s army, Raghava aims to rescue his wife Janaki, who has been abducted by Lankesh, the king of Lanka.

Prabhas plays the role of Raghava (Lord Ram) and Kriti Sanon plays the role of Janaki. Saif Ali Khan plays the role of Lankesh along with Sunny Singh as Lakshmanaa, and Devdatta Nage as Hanuman. The film also features Vatsal Seth, Sonal Chauhan, and Trupti Toradmal. The film is a modern adaption of the epic using modern technologies and VFX with a budget of around ₹250 crores. The film is slated to have a theatrical release on January 12, 2023.
Shah Rukh Khan is back after a four-year hiatus after his last film Zero co-starring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif did not perform well at the box office. However, 2023 is slated to be a blast for SRK fans with three releases including Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. Directed by Siddharth Anand, Pathaan also features Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in pivotal roles. The film is slated to have a theatrical release in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on January 25, 2023.
Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani
The upcoming film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi is slated for a 2023 release. “The film is a joyous film, in my opinion, I hope that everybody else believes that. We have an amazing cast from Kolkata as well. We have Churni Ganguli and Tota Roy Chowdhury. I’ve worked with Aamir Bashir, Kshitee Jog and an actress called Anjali Anand. We have so many interesting new actors and it’s a massive ensemble, a family love story,” said Karan Johar in an interview.

Jawaan marks the first venture of Tamil filmmaker Atlee and Shah Rukh Khan and also the latter’s with South Indian actor Nayanthara. She will be making her debut in the Hindi films with this. The film is eyening a June 2, 2023 release.
It is the year of Shah Rukh Khan. He will be starring in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, touted to be a light-hearted comedy drama film, which is slated to release in theatres in Christmas 2023.
